History of Camel International

Camel International was started by the late James Henry Tickle (Harry to his friends) in the late 1970's. Initially trading as V & HT Transport, Harry was able to secure a contract with a company supplying oil drilling equipment to the Middle East. Starting out with a DAF 2200 (you'd better believe it!) he operated the business along with his sons Philip, David and Peter, and built up an extensive knowledge of long-distance transportation.

Unfortunately, due to ill health Harry had to retire in 1997, and David and Peter carried on the business, building up a fleet of five Dutch registered artics. However, in December 2000, the company began to feel the effect of increased running costs and ever decreasing rates, and decided to get out of the big truck game cutting down the fleet to one 7.5 tonner and one 3.5 tonner.

A drastic step indeed, but one which has since proved to be worthwhile, in economic terms.

The light haulage company trades as D & M International Light Haulage, and now has two 3.5 ton vehicles.

David continues to provide vehicle maintainence services and general haulage.

During the latter part of the 1990's until quite recently, David was operating his 7.5 ton Leyland Daf 45 to and from Europe, mainly to Germany and Spain but also to Holland, double-manning to provide a next day express service.

In order to further broaden the work base they have recently acquired a 3.5 ton transported to carry Classic and Sports cars to the many exhibitions and shows throughout Europe.
